403 Error Immediately After Install

I followed the instructions to install Mastodon from source and am receiving a 403 every time I attempt to navigate to my domain. I am not using docker.

My nginx log file (/var/log/nginx/error.log) reveals the following error each time I try to access the URL.

2020/08/04 21:06:52 [error] 21803#21803: *3637 directory index of "/home/mastodon/live/public/" is forbidden, client: 99.11.17.113, server: [mydomain], request: "GET / HTTP/2.0", host: "[mydomain]"

I am seeing the little Mastodon favicon in the browser tab, so I think that is a sign that the assets were compiled successfully and installation otherwise proceeded OK.

I suspect that there is something going on with my /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/mastodon file (see below), but I don’t see any obvious culprits.

Should I modify that root URL to point to a different directory?
